2010 exhibition calendar @ The ARTS FACTORY

MARTIN KRELOFF    “Stars and Sumos”    July 1 to August 21, 2010

Ross has always had an affinity for Hollywood gloss.  It is evident in his work that he is especially enamored of the Technicolor movies produced by 20th Century Fox during the 1940s.  Working primarily in colored pencil, his drawings are mounted on foam core, and then arranged inside box frames to form a tableau.  The subject matter varies, with humor, pop culture, and eroticism recurring as themes but frequently masking darker, more subversive content.

Ross will be visiting Las Vegas for the opening of his exhibition on September 2 and 3, 2010.  The Sin Sity Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will be curating the gallery these two special nights.  A portion of the sales for the evening will be donated to Sisters Aid Drug Assistance Program.

East meets West pop culture sizzles when Martin Kreloff presents his “Stars and Sumos” collection at the Laura Henkel Fine Art Gallery between July 1, 2010 and August 21, 2010.

Kreloff began painting at the age of twelve and was primarily influenced by the emerging Pop Art scene personified by such greats as Warhol and Lichtenstein. He is widely known for his portraits of iconic Hollywood stars, portraying them in a hard-edged, Technicolor style.  Residing in Miami for many years, and informed by the Art Deco splendor of South Beach, Kreloff developed a brilliant color palette that critics dubbed “tropical noir.”

Gallery owner, Dr. Laura Henkel, states that “Kreloff’s portraits are essential for any serious Pop Art collection.  He vividly captures the essence of his subjects with the use of bold and vibrant color.”

Kreloff was chosen by the City of Las Vegas to create eight banners that will be used to brand the “Cultural Corridor,” the first of several Urban Trails planned by the city.  The project is currently being installed and will be unveiled later this year.

He was also recently commissioned to create a portrait of Nevada State Senator David Parks.

“Stars and Sumos” reflects Kreloff’s witty and whimsical, bold and colorful style.   Meet the artist on August 5 and August 6, 2010 at the Laura Henkel Fine Art gallery.
